On February 3, 1959, rock and roll changed forever.

Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson left a show in Clear Lake, Iowa and boarded a small plane bound for Chicago. The crash that followed became known as The Day the Music Died.

But the music didn’t disappear.

Those songs went on to shape generations of musicians, including us.

Before The Empty Pockets ever played a real show, Buddy Holly records were on constant repeat in a Chicago garage. We learned the songs, studied the harmonies, and fell in love with the sound of a real band playing real music.

That inspiration became our first recording.

Not Fade Away: A Tribute to Buddy Holly was recorded in 2007, before streaming and playlists. It is raw, honest, and full of the energy that first pulled us toward this music.
